Camelot Golf & Country Club

CamelotQ: What milestone are you celebrating?
This is our 25th Anniversary season!

Q: Provide a brief description of your business.
We are a private, not-for-profit, member-owned golf club that features 18-holes of golf, modern practice facilities, and lavish locker rooms as part of a beautiful clubhouse that features a three-level patio overlooking our golf course and the Ottawa River.

Q: What factors have helped you to successfully reach this particular milestone?
The premium amenities, award-winning design, volunteer spirit and passionate Members of the club!

Q: What has been your most memorable moment in business?
We hosted the 2012 Golf Canada Men`s Amateur Golf Championships…however very recently we almost matched that moment as SCOREGolf rated us the top golf course in Eastern Ontario, as part of their Top 100 ranking list released in July 2016.

Q: What’s one interesting thing about your business that people might not be aware of?
No longer are we a $25,000 investment to join the club, and in fact we have multiple, flexible membership options to choose amongst, including Dining Memberships and Corporate Memberships featuring packages of 20, 40 or 60 rounds.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you have overcome as a business to reach this milestone?
The golf industry has been met with many challenges over the past 8 years, and despite a leveling of golfers playing the game, we have managed to adapt to the changing market without losing sight of our objectives as a premium private golf club.

Q: Describe how your business started, and how it’s changed over the years.
Camelot was the vision of three individuals that we fondly call `The Founders``- Don Noseworthy, Philippe Gagnon & André Gagnon. They saw a few pieces of property, envisioned it as a premium golf course and committed to having it become one of the best in the country by retaining an reknowned  golf course architect, Thomas McBroom, and building a lavish clubhouse atop the property. The golf course has matured over the years to be one of the country`s best, as was the intention.

Q: What can we expect from your business in the future? Are there any plans on the horizon you would like people to know about?
We will continue to grow, and have long-term plans of bringing a PGA level championship event to Camelot. In the short term we are researching strategies to have families take part in more aspects of the club, so plans will be put into effect soon to make Camelot attractive to the entire family, regardless of whether they are a golfer!

Helen Ofosu, I/O Advisory Services

Q: What milestone are you celebrating?

A: I just had a magazine article published that relates to a new service that my business is offering. I've been providing various HR services for a while, but now I'm customizing some of my work to help companies protect their data and intellectual property using HR strategies. The article appears in FrontLine Security. It's not a magazine with mass appeal like McLeans or Time. Rather it's a magazine that's normally read by people who are concerned with IT security, national defense, and threats associated with cyber crime.

Q: What’s one interesting thing about your business that people might not be aware of?

A. Most business owners understand that IT security / cyber security is essential for keeping their data and intellectual property safe. As a result, most businesses invest in technical solutions to take care of the risks to their information. This is a good start, but all the security experts agree that the biggest risk isn't threats that originate outside your organization. The bigger risks come from within an organization - whether those threats come from accidents or something intentional. I/O Advisory Services is one of few organizations that understands the organizational, human resources, and psychological factors that contribute to insider threats.

Q: What can we expect from your business in the future? Are there any plans on the horizon you would like people to know about?

A. I/O Advisory Services has started to do (paid) presentations to companies in the financial services industry and is initiating some consultations in this area. Also watch for continuing education courses through local post-secondary institutions on these important topics.

Jason Bellefleur, Bellefleur Physiotherapy

OBE_40U40 2016 Gala_149What milestone are you celebrating?
I was honoured to be recognized as one of Ottawa’s 2016 Forty Under 40 recipients. This is one of Ottawa’s most prestigious business awards recognizing accomplished and rising business leaders under the age of 40. The Forty Under 40 award has become the symbol of leadership, innovation, business acumen and community involvement in Ottawa, all of which enhances and validates our current and future business leaders.

Provide a brief description of your business.

Bellefleur Physiotherapy is a full service Physiotherapy clinic that helps people live without pain, return to the activities they enjoy doing and live healthier lives. With a focus on personalized one-on-one treatments in private treatment rooms and offering an excellent customer experience, Bellefleur Physiotherapy has built a reputation on professional excellence, being the clinic of choice for physiotherapy and being a sought after employer for Physiotherapists.

What factors have helped you to successfully reach this particular milestone?

Being around like minded people has been instrumental in reaching this particular milestone. Having no business background whatsoever there has been a huge learning curve. That being said, having been a member of the Orléans Chamber of Commerce even before starting my own business was the first step in the process. I learned so much from being around other business owners, hearing about their successes and failures, observing their passion for entrepreneurship and being involved in their community. Always being open minded and continuous learning have been important as well. My business book shelf is getting quite full, but learning things or developing new ideas helps to keep pushing things forward. And with anything, if you don’t have a great team it’s difficult to achieve any success. My colleagues all share in the same vision and we all work hard to achieve a common goal.

What has been your most memorable moment in business?

Being able to provide meaningful employment for the people of Orléans, but more specifically to provide physiotherapists with an alternative business model to what is currently available in private practice in Ottawa.

What’s one interesting thing about your business that people might not be aware of?

Our company values the power of networking, the relationships that we build and the effectiveness of word of mouth referrals. That is why all of our full time physiotherapists participate in a networking group to develop their own name within our brand.

What is the biggest challenge you have overcome as a business to reach this milestone?

Quitting my full-time job to enter the uncertainty of launching my own business was probably the biggest challenge. At the time I had a young family and wasn’t trained as a business owner (being a physiotherapist by profession). I had to place a lot of trust in my own abilities and take small steps forward to ensure the business would success.

Describe how your business started, and how it’s changed over the years.

The business started in the living room of my house that I had converted into an office/treatment room. I worked out of my house for 4 months before the brick and mortar clinic at the Orléans Town Centre opened its doors. When the doors of the clinic opened, we were a staff of two – myself and our office admin Tonya, who still works with us almost 3 years later. Now we are a team of 9 employees, including 5 physiotherapists and we are soon going to run out of space in our clinic.

What can we expect from your business in the future? Are there any plans on the horizon you would like people to know about?

Our business is in growth mode and we want to continue pushing the boundaries and changing the mindset within physiotherapy and healthcare businesses.

Becoming an active member of the community is a big part on why Sax Appeal is still in business. Consistently attending Chamber of Commerce events in order to build a brand takes years.

An all-saxophone ensemble is quite unique. Very few people have ever heard of a group like this, let alone would be actively looking for one. Challenge was that Jarrod Goldsmith had to literally create a new market. This involved a tremendous amount of networking!

Q: Describe how your business started, and how it’s changed over the years.
It took thousands of hours of networking to build the brand, reputation and trust. In so doing, eSAX – The Entrepreneur Social Advantage Experience was born. Here is a short documentary about how Sax Appeal got started! http://goo.gl/LrGAAC
